TYPICAL ABORIGINAL HEALTH PROBLEMS Because many aborigines now subsist on government welfare checks for their subsistence, many of them have lost all sense of motivation, morals or goals. With little or no chance to get jobs of any sort due to the scarcity of jobs available as well as the aborigines scarcity of labor skills, many of them spend their time drinking. They live in less than hygienic surroundings as well, most of them in cinderblock houses with too many occupants per house. Stray dogs roam everywhere. The aborigines in some of the farthest reaches of Australia have an average life span of only 38 years. This was due to things such as domestic violence and street fights, but also due to their diet. Because many aborigines live on junk food their predisposition for Type II Diabetes is rampant. It has a forty percent rate of prevalence among the adults (Bradley 124). Pneumonia is quite common due mostly to the crowded living conditions and the aborigines hesitation to seek health care on a timely basis. The children suffer from much malnutrition and are often neglected by their parents (Bradley 124). Among many Aborigines and Torres Strait Islanders there is extremely high ratios of sexually transmitted disease present. This is due not necessarily to numerous sexual partners but due to the lack of hygiene and incentive to seek medical attention when needed (Fairly and Bowden et al 117). Because so many aborigines live in relatively rural conditions with little or no hygiene of any sort, many health problems are present within their numbers.
