a brief discussion about factors in the airline industry in general. For example, one survey conducted of negative critical incidents in an airline pointed out that the most common source
of such incidents for passengers and airline personnel involved delays and cancelled flights, delayed or damaged luggage and over bookings (Edwardsson, 1992). The main dilemma here, it appears, is lack
of information to and communication with customers (Edwardsson, 1992). Peters (2004) supported this thought, noting that "people are all desperately, irrationally hungry for information in any and all forms" --
and airlines could help in this endeavor by teaching their personnel on how to keep the passengers informed. To do so, more staff needs to be better trained and employed
to keeping passengers informed, among other things, which goes under the category of human resources management, or HRM (Boyd, 2001). Now, with
all of the above in mind, the student can write a journal essay similar to the following. On a recent flight I
took from Chicago to San Francisco, there were some huge problems at the gate that could have been eliminated, or at least reduced, by some stronger and better strategic planning
among human resources. I made sure I was at the airport at least an hour and a half before flight time. I
