of Texas itself is highly diverse, with various ethnic minorities taking their place within the borders of the Lone Star State. In this paper, well examine two of these minorities
- Asians and Hispanics (though Hispanics in some areas of Texas are actually "majorities" as well see later on in this paper).
Before beginning, however, we need to issue a disclaimer. Given the huge size of Texas and the huge diversity of each of its cities, its difficult to generalize about the
types of Asian and Hispanic communities in each area. For example, San Antonio has huge ties with its Hispanic community - in fact, when one examines the population, there are
more Hispanics in the region than there are Caucasians. Its just the opposite in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Though this area does have a huge Hispanic population, its vastly different
from San Antonio, which bases its city and cultural heritage on its Hispanic members. In addition, its hard to generalize about ethnic
minorities in Texas as well. In the Asian minority, this includes Vietnamese, Korean, Chinese, Japanese and so on, and all have different cultures. And while its assumed that most Hispanics
in Texas do come from Mexico, Texas also has its share of Hispanics from South America and Central America as well. But as well as we can, well try to
generalize to support the contention that Texas is actually a huge melting pot. Well start with the Asians first, namely because the
