been attributed to the work of a Frenchman by the name of Chretien de Troyes who managed to romanticize the legends. Through his works the reader was introduced to a
world where men and women had distinctly defined roles. Almost all the heroes were bigger than life and all were motivated by some force greater than themselves. Why are people
attracted to the tale of King Arthur? Perhaps there is still that ancestral holdover, no matter what ones ethnicity, that says that the unexplainable is explainable if one believes in
magic; that all people have the chance to rise from rags to riches. It makes sense of the senseless and pattern out of chaos. THE KNIGHT WITH THE LION "He
charged at full speed.... ....asking God\\\s pardon for this and offering penitence"(Kibler 139). IDENTIFICATION: The largest part of this
story speaks of Yvain attempting to right the wrongs he has perpetrated and to win back the love of Laudine. One of the most notable reciprocal relationships is between Yvain
and the Lion which he saves from a snake dragon. ANALYSIS: The story of Yvains reconciliation with Laudine mimics that which will be
experienced by Arthur and Quinevere. After Laudine tells him not to come back to her, he becomes despondent, living as a hermit in the woods. Yvain comes upon a terrible
