is it the product of the directors creativity? One must make note of the fact that in nearly every movie ever made, the movie is attributed to the director, not
the screenwriter, nor the producer. Therefore, even where art cinema is concerned, the concept of the auteur is alive and well. Fran?ois Truffaut expressed in his 1954 essay Une certaine
tendance du cin?ma fran?ais, that film, ideally, is a medium of personal expression for the director, whom, for that reason, was to be regarded as an auteur, or author. Given

tells the tale of seven unemployed samurai who are hired by a small village to protect them from marauding bandits. His works are classically humanist stories set in stark surroundings.
