former "Iron Man" was running against a governor who was uniformly unpopular because of his various policies. But most people shrugged Schwarzenegger off as a name, rather than a viable
political entity. Many years later, that skepticism is history. Schwarzenegger won a convincing first term and was re-elected by acclaim. He is
a governor who is outspoken in his views, yet respected by his constituent. Yet looking back on Schwarzeneggers life, we can
see that he exhibited various leadership directions even during his body building and acting days. The question we ask here is whether Schwarzenegger evidences Kouzes five practices and 10 commitments
of leadership. To answer this question, it would be helpful to define the practices and commitments, then examine Schwarzeneggers life, and discuss
how Schwarzenegger was a leader of life, even before he took leadership in the state of California. Sociologists James Kouzes and Barry
Posner believe that leadership and leadership potential can be boiled down to five practices and 10 commitments. Their belief is that, no matter what path a person takes, the practices
and commitments is what makes that person a leader, whether he/she digs ditches for a living or decides to run for president of the United States.
The sociologists mark the five practices as modeling the way (being models of behavior they expect from others), inspiring a shared vision (being able to share
