and hoping theyll be carried out. The focus of my other paper was that any kind of strategic planning must take into account an organizations values, mission and vision; and
that strategy can be defined as the activity that ties the two together. Planning strategy isnt a pie-in-the-sky activity however - the
actual definition is fairly down-to-earth. Strategic planning, in its most basic form, is described as "a management tool for organizing the present on the basis of projections of the desired
future" (Strategic Planning). In other words, strategic planning involves detailing what activities need to occur to get an organization from point A (where it is now) to point B (where
management decides it should be). The current assignment asks that I examine approaches to evaluation and selection based on my previous paper.
However, given there was no specific strategic plan indicated in that paper, Ill provide a general overview and discussion about strategic approaches and alternative strategies, and how these are determined.
Though strategic planning is fairly straightforward, determining the right approach takes time and effort. As I mentioned in my earlier paper, organizations
involved in strategic planning examine their internal structures and external environments, with leadership driving the process. In addition to these scans and research necessary, organizational leadership needs to examine the
