The rest of the law abiding public, however, will be left without an equally defense with which to protect themselves, inevitably leaving guns only in the hands of those who use them to kill. The extent to which gun control will tip the balance toward criminals is both grand and far-reaching; that proponents cannot see how such legislature would ultimately play out speaks to a very limited perspective that fails to acknowledge the potential for more fatalities when it becomes unlawful for people to defend both themselves and their constitutional right to keep and bear arms. ...Those troubled by gun ownership focus on handguns...Such emphasis is an enduring echo of the 1920s, from which the primary precedent is the UFA--which continued the "rule in America" by applying only to small arms. Now, as then, the special concern with handguns is their concealability as compared to rifles and shotguns, and their corresponding ease of use for urban crime. The real issue, then, is not so much having guns in ones home, but rather readily carrying them out of the home for criminal purposes (Marshall, 2009, p. 695+). The firearm prohibition movement has been less than honest about many issues surrounding gun control, arguing that "there is every reason to question the sincerity of their expressions of their own intents and purposes that they only desire reasonable restrictions to keep guns out of the wrong hands" (Anonymous, 2003).
