the proper doses, the medication can cause more problems than its helping. Medication error, unfortunately, is a fairly common occurrence. In most cases, the error doesnt cause anyone any harm.
But in some cases, it can create more illness and even death. The following describes a case study in which medication error
occurred, and discusses what was done to track the error. Through the description of this case study, well examine not only the error that was caused, but also what methods
were used (if any) to try to get down to the bottom of what happened. The Medication Error The following medication
error was based on an actual case study. The remainder of the paper will provide a scenario as to how this was tracked, who determined the error and what should
have been done to ensure the error never happened. The source for the case study is W-F Professionals Inc. (2004). A patient
and his wife relocated to Arkansas following the patients bypass surgery in Dallas, TX. At the patients final check-up with his cardiologist, he was told he had a life expectancy
of 5-10 years. When the couple moved to Arkansas, the patient started visiting a new family practitioner. Because the patient was
overweight, the new doctor prescribed Zaroxolyn. Zaroxolyn is used to reduce fluid retention and was prescribed because of the patients history of hear failure.
