Goldratt who ultimately ended up proposing the Theory of Constraints Which basically notes that system outputs depend on a variety of steps, and that the end output will be constrained
by a weaker, less productive step. In other words, Goldratts philosophy follows the old adage that the chain is only as strong as its weakest link.
In The Goal, the main character ends up trying to find that weakest link in order to save his plant and his job from being shut
down. Instead of focusing on productivity and trimming costs, which most managers would do, this particular manager, upon advice from a former mentor, ends up tracking down the weakest links
on his production line, improving their capacity and ultimately saving the plant. Chapters One to Three The book centers around a main
character by the name of Alex Rogo, who is the typical middle manager in UniCo, a company where he has been employed for fifteen years. He has an undergraduate
degree in engineering and MBA. In his personal life, he is married with two kids. He is also an example of an employee who has risen through the
ranks to become plant manager of the manufacturing company in his hometown. Alexs factory produces assemblies that are furnished to other plants in the fictitious UniWare division of UniCo.
