The human services industry, in a very simple sense, is dedicated to helping both people and the communities (State of North Dakota, 2004). This assistance can take many forms, but the main belief of this industry is that everyone deserves basic needs and the industry is dedicated to providing those needs, which include food, shelter and employment (State of North Dakota, 2004). The industry also strongly supports foundations (which are organizations providing financing and money for non-profits, which then go into the community to assist the community) (State of North Dakota, 2004). In the meantime, other municipalities (such as the York Region) had launched its own definition of human services, namely that human services involves the "basic health and well-being of citizens" as it keeps growth with progress (York Region, 1999). In addition, human services could be defined as "activities that impact the lives of human beings" (Beaufort County Alliance for Human Services, 2003). Its interesting to note that in most of these definitions, there isnt a definite trait of government actually assisting in the endeavor. Yet its implied here. In most western nations (especially democratic and somewhat socialist nations), its implied that when a population is in need, the government will step forward to lend a hand, either through financial or other resources. Many people, especially in socialist societies, tend to believe that the government should step forward and support the population even if the populations need is for the basics, such as food, clothing and shelter.
