At one time, leadership was fairly straight forward; a leader would give his/her orders, and the subordinates would follow. In this day and
age there are a great many leadership styles - and as with any business theory, such styles and theories have their critics and supporters. In this paper, well examine some
of the more well-known theories, then discuss outcomes of one of these theories. Perhaps the best-known leadership model -- and certainly the oldest
one in existence -- is the classical leadership model. The basis of the classical leadership model (which is based on the military models) is production and profit at all
costs, no matter how hard such a concept might be on the workers (Crawford and Brungardt, 2000). Classical leaders tended to view the end as the ultimate goal, rather
than focusing on the means to the end (Crawford and Brungardt, 2000). For the classical leader, stability is the key to success, with change regarded as disruptive in the
workflow, and something that can lead to more errors and problems in getting results and stabilizing profit (Crawford and Brungardt, 2000). Classical leaders believe they have the right to
lead and as a result, they take their authority seriously, making decisions, confronting issues and evaluating workers and employees on a daily basis (Crawford and Brungardt, 2000).
Classical leadership theory works best in a workplace of low-skilled employees, workers who follow directions without question (Crawford and Brungardt, 2000).
