types of medical insurance, behavioral managed care does not deliver services directed the customer; but rather, delivers those services through other outlets such as medical facilities, HMOs, corporations or public
sector agencies. As a result, it is up to the provider to know the philosophy of many of these organizations and to know their rules and regulations so that disputes
are at a minimum and the provider/organizations/patient forms a strong partnership and alliance dedicated to the patients well-being. In this paper, we will
examine four major players in the behavioral managed care industry, discuss their philosophies and then determine how provider can join such network. We will then examine how the provider
can develop and maintain a good working and effective relationship with the managed care organization. Managed Health Care Companies/Philosophies Before analyzing the following
four companies, it should be known that the philosophies do not differ in whole lot -- but the way the missions and philosophies are stated does. The main goal
of all of these organizations is to help provide quality behavioral health care while containing costs for its members. APS Healthcare, Inc. APS
Healthcare, based in Maryland, is a private, for-profit managed behavioral health care organization (APS Healthcare, Inc., 2003). The primary customers of this organization include corporate employers, HMOs and PPOs, unions,
indemnity plans and public sector programs (APS Healthcare, Inc., 2003). The organization claims it is different from other similar organizations because of a trained and experienced management team and staff,
