business, will be operating out of Nassau, in the Bahamas. The goal of the following proposal will be to provide a comprehensive overview of the organization, to determine both start-up
challenges and expansion issues it may face. Location As mentioned above, the cruise
lines home base will be Nassau, in the Bahamas. Nassau is the capital of the Bahamas, which is a tropical island just southwest of the United States (Bahamas, 2009). The
Bahamas is one of the wealthiest Caribbean countries, with its main industries involving offshore banking and tourism (Bahamas, 2009). Tourism accounts for approximately 60% of the countrys GDP (Bahamas, 2009).
English is the official language, though Creole is also spoken among the Haitian immigrants (Bahamas, 2009). The labor force is fairly well
educated, with about 95% of the population over the age of 15 able to read and write (Bahamas, 2009). The islands climate is temperate as well, though prone to hurricanes.
The good news about headquartering Allure Cruise Line in the Bahamas is that this is a nation that embraces tourism. Tourism
is part of its livelihood - its estimated that about 60% of the islands population is either directly employed or indirectly impacted by the tourism industry (Bahamas, 2009). As a
result, the population is geared towards hospitality, and knows how to behave in a customer service type of setting, such as what might be involved in a cruise line.
