has come into existence that threatens the very balance of life in Africa. Given the dire nature of the AIDS epidemic in Africa one has to wonder if it would
be ethical not to have an aids/hiv policy in the South African workplace. In July of this year, the US Agency for international development
released a statement corroborating Tom Lantos statements. According to their findings from the most recent world Census there will be asignificant drop in life expectancies for over fifty one countries,
with a negative rate of growth for those countries(AIDS/HIV statistics, 2002). A good deal of the countries on the list are in Africa, with the average lifespan reaching only thirty
or forty years of age. Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean are also on the list "The AIDS pandemic is dramatically changing the demographic makeup of African countries,"
said Karen Stanecki, author of the report and Chief of the Health Studies Branch, International Programs Center, Census Bureau. "Unfortunately, many African countries are only beginning to see the impact
of these high levels of HIV prevalence"(AIDS/HIV Statistics 2002). The organization, USAID, is the largest AIDS/HIV related organization in the United States dedicated to eradicating this contemporary plague of
the new millennium. "The staggering trend of decreasing life expectancies due to AIDS only strengthens our resolve to do more to fight the pandemic," said Dr. Anne Peterson, assistant
