Aetnas mission statement is that the company is "dedicated to helping people achieve health and financial security by providing easy access to safe, cost-effective, high-quality health care . . ."
(Aetna Mission & Values, 2009). The mission also points out that the company is trying to offer affordable coverage choices in the area of health care, which will aid in
prevention and help with treatment of illnesses (Aetna Mission & Values, 2009). The organization, however, is trying to ply its products in
an extremely volatile industry. The health care industry is undergoing seismic changes - as more and more consumers are unable to afford the high cost of insurance, theyre doing without.
Furthermore, the influx of immigration is also forcing more of a strain on the system - many emergency rooms, for example, arent just for emergencies any more, but rather, are
ersatz clinics for people who are ill, because they didnt have insurance coverage to see a health-care provider for prevention. Along with
the immigration scenario is a health care system that is struggling to understand different cultures and their view on medicine. Asian immigrants, on the one hand, are willing to trust
doctors - in fact, they believe the doctor is the ultimate authority on everything and wouldnt dare question his/her diagnosis. On the other hand are Hispanic immigrants, who dont have
