Abstract The abstract provides a detailed summary of the paper so that interested parties/readers can obtain a overview of the paper, the problem/issue and how it has been analyzed. Incidentally, the abstract should be written last -- those so the student knows what the paper is about and what conclusions can be reached. In this paper, we are attempting to answer two issues. The first issue involves comparison and contrast between Chinese and Canada General Acceptable Accounting Practices (GAAP). The second issue revolves around the question of convergence, and whether these two systems of accounting practices can actually converge and harmonize with one another. Throughout the abstract, the student must try to capsulize and summarize the contents of the paper. For example, the issue itself is important because globalization and international markets mean more investors want more assurances that finances of companies are being reported properly. This is been especially important, given the recent corporate scandals that had impacted U.S. companies such as Enron, Global Crossing, Adelphi and WorldCom. Investors are understandably shaky and they want reassurance that what they are being told is true. In examining the literature, we note that there is little that compares Canadian GAAP with Chinese GAAP -- although there does seem to be some studies that has compared earnings reported under Chinese GAAP with those reported for IAS.
