McCollum (2004) recognizes this dichotomy when he notes in his review that "trying to write a capsule description of ABCs new Lost is almost impossible without making it sound, at best, positively ludicrous" (p. PG), particularly when one of the plane-wrecked cast ultimately kills a polar bear in the bamboo forest. Despite such ridiculous - and wholly intended - contradictions, however, McCollum (2004) is quick to note how they only add to the unique attraction Lost maintains throughout the entire show. Creators and executive producers JJ Abrams (Alias) and Damon Lindelof (Crossing Jordan) have materialized one of the most plausible story lines in what would otherwise be passed off as yet another reconstruction of a sorely tired plot: a cast of characters (led by Party of Fives Charlie Fox, Evangeline Lilly, Jorge Garcia, Dominic Monaghan and Naveen Andrews) marooned on an island after their plane goes down on a deserted island ultimately realize they are not alone - a man-eating creature stalks their every movement and makes their lives a living Hell. In fact, Lindelof explicitly states how this premise has placed few limitations on creativity (SciFiWire, 2004). "Out of the blackness, the first thing Jack...senses is pain. Then burning sun.
