assess that approximately 2/3 of the population of this meeting either live in the neighborhood or attend the church, while the other 1/3 are people from outside the general area.
A visual assessment of the population suggested a high degree of heterogeneity. There were 6 women and 15 men, of at least three different notable ethnicities (African American, White
and Asian). A general observation of the population suggested a variety of socioeconomic groups. The age range of this population was from 19-55, with the largest participant segment falling
between the ages of 40-50. The group was comprised of a single facilitator and a population of participants. The group sat in a large room with a podium at
the front, and the facilitator began by sharing their own story and then asking others to either discuss it or introduce their own stories. Each individual who wanted to
speak was encouraged to stand at the front of the room so that they could be heard. Group Goals/Success in Meeting Goals Groups are defined either
by their usefulness or by the application of the group form. In terms of usefulness, groups often relate to the purpose of the group and the need for meeting
similar goals by group members. In this example, each participant shared the same goal of sobriety and maintaining sobriety or returning to sobriety. As a result, each participant,
regardless of age, income, or occupation, was considered an equal in the room, based on the concept of maintaining support, creating an environment directed towards sobriety, and helping members achieve
