of higher learning, like a college, then the stress factors multiply exponentially. Given this, then, it is little wonder that so many never make it through their course of study
to achieve their degree. The typical year in the life of a student adequately illustrates why this may be so. Many believe that the entering freshmen have the hardest of
all adjustments to make. In many respects, this cannot be argued. Consider that the student has left one way of life for another way of life that more than likely
will be completely different than the one that he has known. Consider also that most students entering college have a very poor idea of what they are getting themselves into.
Most believe that college will only be an extension of high school only the parental supervision no longer exists. They are wrong. And, when they discover that they are
wrong, this is when the stress sets in. Failing in their classes, many freshmen receive additional pressure from parents (who are footing most of the bill), to straighten up or
they will cut off the money. Consider those that do not rely on parental support for their college education. Most of these students must work jobs in addition to attending
classes. As a freshman this is quite an adjustment(Trockel 2000). However, one must state that the stresses only continue to mount as one continues through the course of study
at a typical four year college. Most students eventually figure out that they must study or they will be leaving the academic situation to flip burgers at McDonalds. However, most
do not realize HOW to study, or WHERE to study. In addition, most are faced with the fear of having to chose a major. Gone are the days of playing
