significantly both in regard to facilities and staff. Moss Childcare is a private child care facility providing care for approximately three hundred children. Only approximately half of those
children, however, attend the facility ten or more hours per week. A visit to Moss Childcare confirms that it is one of the better in the area in terms
of both its facilities and its staff. It has achieved the highest state rating time and time again. Even more importantly, however, it is more than obvious even
to the casual observer that the children at the facility are happy and well taken care of there. A visitor to Moss on
any typical day would observe children ranging between infants to sixth graders. The younger children are kept in the nursery area and the older children have their own classrooms.
The older children are grouped into age groups with only five children per staff member. The child to staff ratio is thus superior to those recommended in state
standards for child care facilities. The Moss facility, as has been noted, features a nursery and individual classrooms for each age
group. The facility also has a state approved food preparation and serving areas staffed by specifically trained personnel. Comparing the menus to those investigated by Ball, Benjamin, and
Ward (2008) for daycares in North Carolina, the Moss facility serves far superior meals that provide its charges all of FDA recommendations.
