Deeper insights into individuals actions and behavior can be ascertained through sociological background profiles. Several concepts are employed in the development of this personal sketch, including gender roles, culture, values, norms and subculture. Gender roles are preconceived notions of how people are supposed to behave based on sex. For example, the male gender role has traditionally dictated that men must be the strong, silent type. They are expected to be aggressive and assertive and any outward display of weakness is often deemed effeminate, and therefore socially unacceptable. In this particular sociological background, the person is male and gives every appearance of being strong and controlled. His is a forceful and introspective personality. He reveals little about his past and gives only brief glimpses into his innermost thoughts. This individual is the picture of self-confidence and registers little in the way of perceptible emotion. The individual who comprises this sociological background consideration was a product of the post-World War II baby boom. He was raised in the Pacific Northwest and was a product of the norms or established value structure of 1950s small-town America. His parents were hardworking, churchgoing people who instilled Christian principles in the young man and his younger brother. It is recommended that the student who constructs a sociological profile consider the significance of culture on behavior and how it is perceived. This individual was imbued with a distinct sense of right and wrong and if he showed any signs of deviating from what was expected of him, his father would resort to physical discipline. He was raised with a strong sense of family, which is the foundation of social values. He knew that any deviant behavior would be punished so any rebelliousness ...
