visited it, it was still an exotic paradise. This paper describes his visit to the islands. Discussion The flight over to Honolulu was very exciting for the boy, since it
was the first time hed been on an airplane. He kept bouncing around the cabin, looking out all the windows, talking to the stewardesses and playing games with his aunt.
The other passengers were annoyed at first, but he was so happy that they began to smile too. When they landed at Honolulu, the first thing he was aware
of was that the island smelled wonderful. The fragrance of tropical flowers filled the air. For a city kid who had never been outdoor much, it was a revelation. The
air felt soft to him as well, he couldnt put it any better than that, but it felt different than the air at home. He watched people while his aunt
got their luggage, and saw a lot of soldiers and Marines. He heard the word "Vietnam but didnt know what it meant. He only found out later that most of
the planes carrying troops to the war in Vietnam stopped in Hawaii to refuel. But that didnt concern him, and anyway he didnt know anybody who was going to the
fighting. After they checked in his aunt asked him if he wanted to take a nap, but he wasnt tired at all. He wanted to go exploring and see as
much as he could of this gorgeous new world. By the time they were ready to leave, it was hot outside, so they decided to take a boat trip on
the ocean. The boy had never been to sea and was practically jumping up and down with excitement. He felt a little queasy as the boat started but soon got
