sources. SA146Poc.rtf Pocahontas was really an Indian "princess" and considered to be the favorite daughter of the Algonquin chief Powhatan ("Pocahontas" PG). Her primary contribution
was to help the survival of the Jamestown colony as well as to have played a brief but important role in English propaganda (PG). Her untimely death had hindered the
successful mediation between the Powhatan Indians as well as the colony (PG). Prior to her intercession and after her death, Jamestown, which was the first permanent English colony, had become
dangerous, mostly due to Indian hostility (PG). Pocahontass contributions to Jamestown begun due to her acquaintance with Captain John Smith after he
had been captured by Powhatans men in 1607 ("Pocahontas" PG). She rescued the English captain who would have probably been executed and relations between the colony and Indians improved and
Pocahontas frequented Jamestown (PG). There are rumors of a romance between the two, but she never did cement the relationship. She had met John Smith in 1608 and between that
time and the time she married another gentleman in 1614, she was kidnapped and raped by the English (Kilpatrick 36). It is rather interesting that while the English treated her
harshly at times, she seemed to continue to be kind to them. She also had been a spy for the colony, and she even warned Smith of her fathers plans
