primarily with the religious wars, the Crusades, of the past, many may well not know about the infamous battle of Lepanto, wherein Christians and the Ottoman empire faced off against one another in 1571. It was essentially one of the biggest battles at sea and one that involved many different individuals and perspectives as it relates to history. The following paper provides an overview, summary, of Jack Beechings work titled The Galleys of Lepanto which is a book that details many aspects of this particular battle. A Summary of The Galleys at Lepanto by Beeching In Beechings work the reader is presented with far more than information concerning dates and the main players in the battle. His work deals with many intricate and interesting facts that seem to bring this period in history to life. His work begins with the chapter Europe and the Mediterranean in 1571 which ultimately lays the foundation for what was going on prior to the battle, laying a foundation for further understanding the complexity of the topic at hand. The next chapter is titled Geronimo, which was another name for the infamous Don John of Austria who would essentially lead the Christian side of the battle. While Beechings work deals with John quite a bit, much of what he says could likely be found in other sources concerning the battle. What makes the work intriguing is his presentation of so many little details throughout the work that illustrate what most history works dismiss or neglect. As an example, in the chapter The Great Antagonist he speaks of a man, Mustafa, who was a mans man it would seem.
