to disability in a variety of settings ("Facts about the Americans with Disabilities Act," 2008). While the act was passed in 1990, people with disabilities have been fighting for some
time. The climate in America had changed after the Civil Rights Era. Now, it was a time for everyone to get his or her due. Perhaps the primary catalyst had
been a new understanding about the capabilities of those with disabilities. Throughout the years, the disabled were shunned and it is only more recently that people with disabilities are taken
seriously. 2.Fair Labor Standards Act The Fair Labor Standards Act is something that was a part of Roosevelts New Deal. It mandated a minimum wage,
but it did other things as well. Until 1938, people would work about six days per week, but this Act made the five day work week the ideal (Bilyeu, 2008).
Bilyeu (2008) explains:" The idea behind a shorter work week wasnt to give people more time off, but to spread the work around and make it available to some of
the millions of people who were unemployed as a result of the Depression" (p.24). The primary catalyst in the creation of this Act was the Great Depression and other conditions
at the time that mandated the creation of social and economic programs. One has to remember that during this wartime era people were devastated in a number of ways. Roosevelts
programs helped to pull the nation out of the funk it was in. 3. Patriot Act The Patriot Act emerged after 9/11 to give the government more leeway in
capturing and prosecuting those suspected of terrorism. It would answer the fears of the people that were high at the time (Ramraj, Hor & Roach, 2005). The most serious
