Life seems to be punctuated with stressful events. These events can be entirely psychological, they can be physical or they can
be a combination of the two. Most often, in fact, it seems that the latter is the case. Psychological stress can result in physical problems and the reverse
is certainly true as well. I recently experienced an accident, for example, where I banged up my legs badly enough that I had to seek medical care.
That physical stressful event ultimately resulted in not just severe physical pain but psychological stress as well. My accident occurred
interestingly enough when I was having one of the best days of my summer. I was swimming at a community pool. A child that was in my care
had been practicing jumping off the diving board. Because the child was a beginning swimmer I only allowed him to do so when I was in the water near
where he entered when jumping. He had tired of the diving board, however, and we had gone to the shallower end to play. All of a sudden he
decided that he was going to go off the board again. He was out of the pool and running towards the board before I barely realized what was happening.
