film A Son of Africa as the narrative is examined and his life discussed. The following paper examines this particular film. A Son of Africa This particular film,
which is relatively short, discusses the life of Equiano as his life begins with slavery. The film has commentaries by individuals who are presumed knowledgeable on the topic and on
Equaino but for the most part the film attempts to illustrate the horrific conditions that this one particular slave endured in his life. For example, at one point he noted,
" I now wished for the last friend, Death, to relieve me" (California Newsreels). This was when he was making the passage, a long voyage that was excruciating and seen
perhaps in many other narratives of slaves who traveled to America or other nations where they were further enslaves. Throughout the work the viewer is brought face to face with
many issues of slavery, some quite different than are learned in the United States in terms of treatment. For example he notes that he witnessed, in Virginia, "slaves tortured with
thumbscrews" (California Newsreels). This particular film is clearly a film that is aimed at bringing light to the past, to the history, and to the horrible conditions of slavery.
It is a film that does not just deal with American realities but also global realities concerning slavery and how the slaves were treated. Anyone interested in history and in
the story of the human race would be interested in this film and the audience is broad, as broad as can be perhaps as the producers clearly wish to educate
