have direct impact on emotion. The beach, for example, is a place where most people experience happiness. That experience is aided by our five senses. The beach
environment stimulates us not just visually and audibly but also through our senses of touch, smell, and even taste. Visually the beach is
a tremendously complex place. The most prominent visual element, of course, is the ocean itself. The color of the water can vary dramatically from a brilliant teal blue
to an imposing darker color. The color is directly affected by the waves. At the beach there are waves that sometimes gently roll to shore wafting their color
in one continuous motion, dispersing it as though from the end of a wide paint brush. There are also waves that sometimes come crashing to the shore in a
a flurry of color and motion. Their impact on the beach leaves visible trails of sand, shell, rock, and beach organisms that slowly regain their composure just in time
to be disrupted again by the next arriving wave. In the background of all of this we have the sky. It too can visually vary in color.
On sunny days it is bright and inviting. When a storm is on the way, however, the color turns darker and more threatening. At night, of course, the sky
blends into the ocean to reveal one mass of darkness. Then it is punctuated by the bright beams of the millions of stars and the reflected light from the
