a scientist who believes in God is inconceivable. Science with its rigorous examination of cause and effect, its strict demand for facts, seems to be entirely opposed to religion. But
Francis Collins, one of the worlds leading geneticists, has gone for atheism to belief, and now shares his journey. This paper discusses his book The Language of God, and the
reasons he gives for his strong belief. Discussion Collinss description of his childhood and early academic career is amusing and interesting and lays the groundwork for his journey from agnosticism
to atheism to faith. His parents were not religious; neither did they feel it necessary to condemn those who were, and raised their son in a tolerant atmosphere, allowing him
to ask his own questions and make his own discoveries. When he started school, he was first drawn to chemistry because it had a great deal of mathematical precision about
it; he was less interested in the life sciences (Collins 14). He decided he would make chemistry his career. In college, he began studying chemistry and decided to make a
scientific career for himself; also like most freshmen, he was exhilarated by the many new ideas he encountered, in his classes and in late night discussions in the dorm (Collins
