terms of survivability or if a smaller city like San Salvador has as much a chance for growth as does a larger city like Mexico city. One of the first
factors that are indicative of a city that will stand the test of time is its ability to adapt and utilize existing resources in a manner that does not over
consume what is produced. San Salvador is located within the Bahamian chain of islands off of Floridas coast. They boast a free market economy with no income tax policies. This
is very attractive to foreign investors who are most often extremely burdened with intense taxes in their own countries. Tourism is the largest source of income for San Salvador,
though most of the traffic is centered in the other areas such as Nassau and the Grand Bahaman Islands. The Economist Intelligence Unit states that tourism and construction are the
two biggest factors impacting substantial growth (4% annually)(San Salvador 2003). Therefore, San Salvador is utilizing its resources well. In land mass San Salvador is not as large as Mexico City,
who also boasts a booming tourist economy and industrial growth. Mexico at this time is better established because of its head start. However, the direction that Mexico has headed may
actually be the template for the direction that San Salvador will follow. One of the major differences, however, is the fact that the Bahamas are among the top financial centers
