short story that offers up the life of a woman, a woman who was clearly oppressed, and also the intriguing and mysterious aspects of her life. There are many reasons
why this particular story is considered a classic. The following paper examines and analyzes this particular story. A Rose for Emily One important element of this particular story
that is helpful to know and understand is the relationship that the story may have with other stories, novels, written by Faulkner. He was an author who had written many
works that were connected in relationship to time period, place, and characters. He wrote "spanned the decades of economic decline from the American Civil War through the Depression. Racism, class
division, family as both life force and curse, are the recurring themes along with recurring characters and places" (Books and Writers). In A Rose for Emily the character of Colonel
Sartoris is one that is seen throughout many of Faulkners stories and although not an important character in A Rose for Emily he is mentioned in the story and as
such ties this story to others, as well as tying the time period and the location to a theme that was common with Faulkner. When one understands this aspect about
the author and his works this short story holds a deeper and more historical position. In relationship to the story itself, another interesting aspect of the story is the
narrator who essentially serves as an incredibly important element in the story. "Faulkners A Rose For Emily is told from the viewpoint of an anonymous resident of Jefferson, Mississippi, where
