In other words, doctors were not able to determine her sex based on the appearance of her genitals. Consequently, based on her karotype which was XY (male), they
decided that she should be a boy and performed surgery to make her genitals appear accordingly. After the surgery the doctors assured Lynnells mother that her baby boy would
be fine. All that would be needed would be hormone therapy when the baby reached pubescence. This would "induce masculinization". Just before her death, Lynnells mother told
her that if she had been born a hermaphrodite she was not aware of it. It is highly likely, in fact, that the doctors never told the mother precisely
what the problem was and dealt with it as they saw fit without any real input from the mother.
2. What happened to Lynnell when she started going to through puberty? Once Lynnell reached puberty she didnt mature
like normal boys were. Instead, her voice only grew higher and she even began growing breasts. Lynnells mother insisted, however, that she act like a boy. She
