Many feel that that phenomena is irreversible and has put the earth on a course of certain disaster. Others, however, regard such theories with a certain degree of skepticism. Certain questions thus present themselves. Two such questions are: 1. If global warming is indeed a phenomena, just how and where did that phenomena begin? 2. Have we progressed to the point of no return in regard to correcting the problem or at least stabilizing it? The media is certainly convinced that the phenomena of global warming is valid. Indeed, articles appear almost daily in major publications around the world. The electronic media devotes its share of coverage to the phenomena as well. While some of this coverage is largely hype, a considerable proportion reports scientific facts regarding the changes which we are observing in our world. A recent front page article in the New York Times, for example, reports a mean increase of 1.1 degrees Fahrenheight (0.6 Celsius) in the earths surface temperature (Johnson and Murphy, 2004). Even more astoundingly, however, is the fact that this increase has occurred entirely within the twentieth century (Johnson and Murphy, 2004)!
