memory, and what memory is. It is a fascinating look at something most people do not even stop and truly examine, or question. Memory is generally something everyone possesses and it is clear that memories are a very powerful part of who every individual is, molding them and helping, as Kotre indicates, create ones identity. The following paper reviews Kotres work. A Review of White Gloves by Kotre Memory is something that is very intimate and very personal to all people. It clearly, and powerfully, helps create who people are and it can uplift or depress people in many different ways. In Kotres work he asks, in the beginning, what if he were to ask "where is memory? The quick answer is to point to your head. But if you pursue the question thoughtfully and thoroughly, you will see that the quick answer is too insular" (Kotre, 1996; 9). He illustrates that if one leaves the "island" of their "mind" and follows any particular "a memory where it leads" then one will "find" themselves "on quite an adventure" (Kotre, 1996; 9). Kotre then essentially takes the reader on an adventure through life, and through memory as it addresses different stages in ones life. The author examines childhood, as well as very early childhood, illustrating how people have a tendency to have a sort of amnesia after a particular point in their early childhood. The author also examines how other people remember events, or write about the events of anothers life. For example, he notes, "If you ever record and write up the story of someones life...youll see how little interest memory has in the calendar" (Kotre, 1996; 86).
