things, particularly when it comes to money, that he feels compelled to write a book to ease the pain of daily living. While he does not always offer practical advice,
misery does like company, and in that, he succeeds in the provision. Ritz targets the very things that make life difficult, makes light of it, offers some advice and provides
a sense that things are really not as bad as they seem. The authors thesis seems to be that if he can go through life, and fail so many
times, then he is vitally equipped to disseminate information on how to live life. In some way, the book is a parody on the self help movement. He writes a
self-help book that is funny but does provide tid bits of actual help. At the same time, the author often negates the advice with a quick comeback. The book is
a comedy routine, but woven into the work is some comfort for those who have had experiences which are similar to the authors. The book is also comforting for those
who have not had those experiences. For example, if someone feels they have not been successful, but have never had the electricity turned off or the car repossessed, they might
feel at least they are better off than this semi-famous actor/comedian. Sinbad is the son of a Michigan preacher and he believes he can actually dispense some good advice,
even though it is veiled in comedy. His claim is that the self-help gurus sail through life and so they really do not know how bad real life can
get. Sinbad knows because he has dropped out of college, gotten divorced and been fired from most of his jobs. He claims to be both a real loser, but not
