most concerning aspects of the postoperative environment. Postoperative pain can, in fact, be contended to be one of the major psychosocial and physiological stresses impacting patient recovery. This
is particularly true in regard to patients that have undergone TKA surgery. Physiologic, pathophysiologic, and psychosocial patient variables influence patient recovery and stresses that nurses and other medical personnel
need to make provisions for each of these variables both before and after surgery (Benzanson, 1997). This is particularly important for the elderly patient.
Significance Careful consideration of the various individual factors which pertain to
