career. This paper discusses the film as a postmodern work. Definitions Before we begin, its useful to define the terms we want to discuss. These definitions are boiled down from a number found on the Web; they are most useful in terms of discussing a film. "Solipsism" is a belief that one is the center of the universe and that no one else really matters. "Decanonization" isnt in any dictionary but well take it to mean taking apart "canon"-"canon" being the popular view of something that has come to seem like law. Democrats "tax and spend" is canon; its not necessarily true, but everyone accepts it as truth. "Hybridization" is bring two unlike things together to create a third; its usually applied to growing plants. "Carnivalization" is a term thats also not in the dictionary; were going to assume it means creating a carnival-like atmosphere. "Fragmentation" means breaking something into pieces; or perhaps even exaggerating parts of something rather than attempting to consider it as a whole. And finally the biggie: postmodernism. There are as many definitions for postmodernism as there are people trying to define it. Mostly its considered the movement that came after modernism-in any field. In film, well go with this: "late-twentieth-century critical, literary, and performance movement that reacts to modern art and literature; postmodernists suggest that truth is no longer verifiable, and that new art forms are best created by freely mixing previous styles and themes" (Postmodernism).
