Marxists have had to endure a host of inaccurate and imprecise criticisms over the years, especially in regards to Marxisms support opposition to industrialization. The argument typically goes that, by
being opposed to industrialization, Marxists are opposed to all forms of large business, severely limited the practical applicability of communism as a practicable way of life. Such criticisms, once again,
sadly miss the point of Marx and Engels careful theoretical framework presented in "The Communist Manifesto". Rather than being blindly opposed to all forms of industrialization, Marx and Engels merely
insisted that industrialization adhere to a certain non-exploitative format. To begin with, let us look at why some readers of the "Communist Manifesto" might suppose that Marx and Engels
would be opposed to industrialization. First and foremost, there is the infamous call to arms issued in the conclusion of the Manifesto that commands the "workers of the world" to
unite in a concentrated effort to overthrow existing industries and reclaim the means of production (Marx & Engels 2005). However, this does not tell the whole story. The entire first
section of the manifesto is devoted to a careful examination of why some industries must be overthrown in a Communist society: not because industrialization is inherently bad, but because industrialization
