mans calendar the year is 1800. It is a new century and we as Native American people face circumstances like we have never faced before. We all have
already experienced the muscle flexing of those that have invaded our lands. So too did our fathers and mothers and their fathers and mothers. Today, however, the number
of the whites has grown well beyond what it was in those earlier days. They have made it clear that they are intent on taking our homes and our
lands and leaving us with nothing. I recognize many great leaders in the group that is before me today. I urge those leaders, as my counsel has urged
me, to firmly resist this effort by these white marauders. To wage this resistance most effectively, however, we must depend on one another. We must form alliances that
are strong enough to fight the white man under the white mans terms. If we do not, we will lose everything. I
urge you my brothers and sisters of the Eastern tribes to band together to face this most eminent danger. Others before us have done so and we have witnessed
the strength of the alliance. Consider, for example, the Pueblo Revolt of 1680 and Potiacs rebellion of the 1760s. These peoples recognized the same threat that we recognize
today. Our fathers have told us that in the Pueblo revolt the people were angered and endangered by the aggressive tactics of the Spanish and they decided to do
something about it. They successfully banded together several tribes in a military alliance which would stand to the test of Spanish might. They succeeded in driving the Spanish
