sake films are created and money is made, but these supposed works of art have little redeeming value. Quality goes by the wayside and gratuitous violence replaces other types of
excitement that could theoretically take its place. That said, once in awhile, Hollywood makes good. The film The Ten Commandments, for example, starring Charlton Heston is a relatively old movie,
but one that has staying power. The Ten Commandments is a timeless work in that it draws on biblical stories that have been told for centuries and will continue
to be told as the new millennium unfolds. Certainly, it is a film that is tied to religion. The film centers on Moses, and the relaying of the now infamous
ten commandments given by God. In this piece, Moses receives directions from God and follows them to the letter. Not only is the plot wonderful, the music is superb, and
the special effects such as when the red sea parts, are quite memorable. Of course, the plot which is based on biblical truths, is the most compelling part of the
work. Charlton Hestons acting is also wonderful, which provides a sense of reality from a 1950s Hollywood film. This is my favorite film because I am religious and watching Moses
and his interactions with God is quite enlightening and moving. Like Moses, I feel that God is talking to me at times. In todays day and age, people who hear
"messages from God" are considered insane, but as this film holds, reality is sometimes stranger than fiction. Indeed, people do have personal relationships with God and while in Moses day
no one was afraid to admit that, things are certainly different now. This is why this film stands out from a variety of movies, even in the religious film genre.
