in which they grew up or on the religion in which they were raised. So many factors come into play. Sometimes a personal experience may tweak ones morality one way
or the other. They may believe in something, but then change their minds due to personal expense. Sometimes reading about a new moral paradigm or even theories about existence can
prompt a change. Through experiences and education, people will in the end come up with a new sense of morality. The morality may be relative. That is, in the context
of cultural relativism, an individual may come up with ideas that are acceptable in some places, but not in others. In fact, from a text submitted by a student, there
is the notion that there is no universal truth. Everything is relative. In other words, while some philosophers have searched for an intrinsic and common morality, and reject the idea
that morality is relative, there is the notion that at least to an extent, there are variances. One example comes to mind which is the fact that in Sharia, women
can be executed for crimes that men can get away with. The Muslim culture is respected, but many in the West believe that this is wrong. They believe that there
is an intrinsic morality and that women should not be executed for committing adultery for example. Therefore, in examining the idea of cultural relativism, even if one accepts that it
exists, one has to decide whether or not it can be incorporated into a personal morality. After all, would someone say that it is fine for such atrocities to occur?
