a very turbulent time in American history. This was a time when brother was often pitted against brother, and the divide between North and South was based more than
on geography. This was a bitter war with many casualties and much suffering and hardship. Soldiers were likely to die from the conditions they endured as well as
from another soldier. The Civil War conflict began in 1861 and lasted until 1865 and was fought between the Northern states (The Union) and the Southern States
(The Confederacy) (Causes of the Civil War, 2002). And yet, in order to truly put this war into perspective, it is best to examine the life of an actual
soldier. A person who witnessed first hand what we only know through history and hearsay. It is when we examine the life of an actual soldier from the
Civil War that we are able to put a human face on this otherwise ambiguous entity. This provides an example of how to begin the actual bibliography and
how to introduce your subject: Allow me to introduce Mr. Benjamin Franklin Ferris, a Civil War solider who was born and raised in the state of Colorado (The Story
of Benjamin Franklin Ferris, 2002). In August of 1861 Ferris signed up to join Captain H. Cook who was recruiting soldiers to go to Kansas with him in order
to fight Jim Lane, the "Kansas Ruffins" (The Story of Benjamin Franklin Ferris, 2002). The next day, Ferris and his brother John joined Cook and about 30 others and
