myself in the company of a group of pilgrims bound for Canterbury. Now, lest you think that I am in any way associated with these people let me assure you
that I am not. Its just that certain people in the last village would just as soon not make my acquaintance again and as these good people were amiable enough,
I agreed to go along with them as their protector. No one would know that underneath the scrawny exterior that I show the world lies the heart of a warrior.
Well, the good Lord prevents me from regaling the listener with more, lest it be considered boasting. The student can include this as part of his opening statement and introduction.
So it was, the student may continue, on the third day of the journey that he joined us. He fell in with us shortly before dark and each
morning, he would mount his large black horse, whom I learned was named Goliath and ride far ahead of us, neither looking behind him, nor pausing for rest. He was
tall, as dark as night, and possessed two curved swords which he treated like his children. Scabbarded on his saddle they projected behind him like the wings on a black
Pegasus. Every morning he woke and sharpened his blades while everyone else was at breakfast. When we finished eating he would come get his share of food
and then take a walk alone. He doesnt trust anyone, unwilling to tell his name to anyone on the pilgrimage. I call him the Dark Man.
