Ship: A Narrative History of Old Ironsides" is likely the most complete and concise look at the history and restoration of this particular ship. The following paper provides a report
of Martins book. A Most Fortunate Ship First and foremost, it is important to note that Martin is not only the author of this book, but also a
man who once served as commanding officer of this ship. From 1974 to 1978 Martin served on the ship and thus has first hand knowledge of some of the intriguing
realities and history concerning this spectacular ship. In one aspect of the book the author addresses many of the different people who have captained the vessel. The author discusses
many of the more infamous ones, as well as illustrating simple and intriguing information about the leaders, even himself. Some of the names mentioned are Jesse Elliot, William Bainbridge, and
Isaac Hull. Through presenting the reader with information about the individuals, along with the historical elements, the reader is given a more deep understanding of the intriguing nature of this
particular national treasure which has taken the military through many different periods in history. Such is further enhanced by Martins apparent deeper investigation into the actions and battles concerning some
commanders, especially Bainbridge and his encounter with HMS Java in one particular battle. Another aspect of the book is that which involves its construction as well as its restoration,
