likely a challenge for most people. Its a time when there are so many conflicting messages that it is difficult to feel certain about who you are. Middle
school is even more confusing for those student that just feel they dont fit in. I was one of those students. I was from a single parent home.
My mother worked in a factory just to keep food on the table. There was no time or money for any extras. My clothes were hand-me-downs. I
was not enrolled in any after-school sports programs and I didnt play the flute like Richlyn Whitis or any of the kids I considered snobs. Although inside myself I
knew I was someone, I desperately needed someone to affirm it. I knew what I wanted to be but I probably didnt have the confidence in myself to actually
figure out a path to get there. During one specific moment in Middle School, however, I finally realized that I could indeed accomplish anything that I set my mind
to. It was third period and my class was in debate class. Mrs. Reagan was a new teacher. Im not sure
where she was from but she was very different from teachers I had had before. Im sure a lot of of the difference I perceived had to do with
her being younger. She was likely fresh out of school herself and was eager to make her mark on the world. Equally important, more than likely, was the
latitude that her subject allowed. Hers wasnt the typical classroom where you sat in neat little rows with all books but the specific text you were using stored below
