of interest was one in front of a carry-out shop. Through talking to Tally and the other men in the neighborhood, Liebow was able to develop a clear picture of
what life was like for the men who lived in this area. In examining this work, three examples from the book are used to explore the social problems in
the neighborhood. One is that the people who live there have limited life chances. Another is that family values have all but dissipated in a neighborhood where survival is key.

Leroy is one of the subjects in Liebows (2003) work. Leroy is described as someone who was a man but acted more like a boy (Liebow, 2003). Leroys story is

prompt him to be able to move towards a college education. None of the men described seemed to have such opportunities either. Another story in the book involves Bernard.
