all of the theories are in the realm of social science, they are often aligned with old theoretical ideas such as the concept that physical appearance is actually related to criminal behavior. The old idea that "beady eyes" may be associated with criminality is a classic example of this phenomenon. While such theories are discounted, there is a grain of truth in it. Wright (2004) explains that physical attractiveness or deformity are things that have been associated with evil ("Encyclopedia," 2004). The author concludes: " Nevertheless, existing research hints that the folk wisdom dating back to the ancient Greeks may have some basis in reality. Physical appearance is related to self-worth and behavior; as the adage goes, "pretty is as pretty does." When it comes to criminal behavior, the opposite may be true as well" (Wright, 2004). Although the debate continues, classification of criminals is par for the course in profiling and within the literature on serial killers is the idea that there are certain types. Of course, sometimes the aberrations get all of the attention. In delving into the niche, it pays to look at why serial killers commit murder. II. Serial Murderers: Why do they kill and kill again? The classical school of criminology embraces the idea that criminal behavior is a choice, where the Positivist school rejects that approach ("Overview," 1998). Between those two paradigms are sociological and psychological explanations for criminal behavior. The most prevalent ones are related to psychology. It is thought, at least from a Freudian perspective, that the killer is acting out unresolved feelings for women for example.
