is a cult-like atmosphere associated with personality analysis. Of course, personality theory is a legitimate social scientific conglomeration of ideas about human nature. Yet, rather than trying to find commonalities
between people, the study of personality tends to differentiate people into types. Personality disorders are diagnosed when a personality becomes a problem. For example, the narcissistic personality is attached to
someone who is obsessed with the self to the detriment of social life. Personality theory is very popular but it is somewhat controversial. It is a part and
parcel of the study of psychology. Within this branch of psychology, there are several theories to embrace. Of course, while examining the theoretical material, it is important to remember that
while a science, it is not an exact sciences. These theories all leave room for interpretation. Counselors who make a living at evaluating behavior often use intuition to an extent.
A student wanting to identify specific personal personality changes may want to look back over the years. Perhaps the student is 20 years old and goes back to the time
he or she was fifteen. A fifteen year old is generally self absorbed, but by the time they are twenty, they are more concerned with other members of the family.
Values, attitudes and beliefs change. One may go from not caring about politics to becoming idealistically communist or conservative. There are many things that may occur. A student may
self-report having been very rebellious during the teen years but maturation had taken place. Changes in values and attitudes are linked with politics as well as with social life in
