Those in the middle are not quite sure. In any event, the argument that proof is necessary and that proof does not exist is rather heated and important. Whether proof
through faith or through the bible or through experience counts is a point of contention between believers and non-believers and this has always been the case. OLeary-Hawthorne in a well
known critique of atheism goes point by point to tear away at arguments waged by the nonbelievers. While his points are well taken, they are also short on definitive proof.
First, OLeary-Hawthorne provides the No-evidence argument by explaining that the argument atheists wage is simply that there is no evidence that God exists. In many ways, this is something that
is quite obvious, but of course, the religious sort will argue that experiential evidence is evidence enough. That is, they can feel the presence of God, relay a variety of
experiences that provide proof of His existence, and they cite biblical prophesy and so forth. Yet, the point made in the article is that there is really little true proof
and the atheists will argue that there is only scant knowledge on this subject. There is no definitive proof of Gods existence, period. In truth, those who support the position
are right. Those who are religious do claim that they must go by faith, and not by proof. Those who want proof are said to not have enough faith. Even
in the bible, it says that if someone has faith as small as a mustard seed he could move mountains. This suggests that faith is low in general, and would
